La Santa Maria
La Santa Maria is a 1978 sixty foot articulated bus manufactured by the MAN coorporation in Germany. This bus originally retailed for over 300,000 dollars! She was purchased by Nexus in October of 2003 from Columbia Pictures where she had been restored for the movie Spiderman II, but was never actually featured. The bus was then gutted by the Nexus crew and outfitted for overly comfortable travel. We find that for cross country travel La Santa Maria is comfortable for about 15-20 people, depending upon the trip. She is outfitted with a huge 8x24ft roof rack w/ a fireman's pole and is currenly getting fitted for another rack on the rear section of the bus as well as a mini snowboard park!. There is a 2000 watt interior stereo and an exterior sound system. 50,000 btu's of heating power insure warmth in even the coldest climates. Top speed is around 63 MPH. Her engine has been converted to run on recycled vegetable oil, biodiesel, or regular diesel fuel depending upon availability. The conversion, done by the Nexus crew, is constantly being improved. Special thanks to Elser, Mackey, Hali, David, Welder Dave, the residents of Hopkins street, and especially Paul and Mary Nowak. Also to all the people who ride the bus and truly make her special.
